Halloween

This is our great granddaughter Shelby. The costume suits her so well. I added the 'freckles'.
She just got her 1st tooth, lower left. And she is just beginning to crawl. What a sweetie!
We had so many trick or treaters. By far more than last year. Some of the cutest costumes.
We ran out of candy about 7:30, which was fine. The later ones tend to be older (teens) and really they are a little too old to be trick or treating. It is hubby's birthday too. We ate supper very early so we could hand out the goodies. That means some ice cream for us later........lol

crafting again

After a few months of not doing much crafting, we got busy again. We made 9 of the wood post candleholders and I made 2 jars as halloween gifts. One more in the works that needs finishing.
The jars are from pickled jalapeno's, the paint is folkart enamels. You bake it and it is washable. The pumpin is for my gr. granddaughter. I hope you can see the back.

Friday night we again went to our High School football game. And again we lost. What a bummer having another losing season. Our band, which is excellent, was the highlight of the evening. In fact, we had our UIL region contest last weekend and got a '1' this week was the area contest. There were 28 bands competing for 10 slots to go to the State contest. Unfortunatly we didn't place. However we went and enjoyed it very much. The bands that did go on deserved it. Several were just plain outstanding!
On the way down (Round Rock, about 45 mi. from us) we stopped in Georgetown to check the store to see if anything had sold. None that we could see. I believe that this may be the last year we bother to put any thing up for sale. They changed the percentage of their "take" and it makes our stuff a little high priced. We either earn less or price ourselves out of range. Decision to make. I am not even bothering to make Christmas items this year.
While in Georgetown we treated our selves to a Luby's lunch.
We got home in time to see Texas beat Texas Tech.
Today we worked on the candleholders that have and order for. They are all completed now.
And of course its a football Sunday.

The great door caper!

As noted before, our son and daughter-in law gave us a backdoor for our wedding anniv. We have the same doors that we had when the house was built. They were/are the hollow core doors that looked good when 1st installed then go down hill from there. The door they installed is a steel door with double paned glass. It even has a deadbolt lock. We had never had one before. (lucky we never had a break in)
Son and wife came Sun. for a late lunch/early supper, then the fun began.
Hubby has never done a door by himself, always was the helper.
They took out the old door easily enough, wrecking out the old frame etc.
The new door actually went in rather easily too. Problem was that the new door and frame didn't measure up the same way. Our old frame was much wider. So we had very big gaps to fill and or cover. So, the fun began.
Hubby wanted to cover the gaps of course. He just didn't want it to look bad. So he began figuring out what to use to cover the outside with. I am absolutly useless when it comes to replacing or fixing stuff like that.
First to be fixed was the inside molding. Just 2 trips to lumber stores for that one.
Next the outside trim. Many, many drawings, measurings and trying to tell me what he means. I was looking blank. Of course that made him angry because I didn't know what the world he was talking about. 3 more trips to lumber yards. Finally found the right stuff. Then getting all the tools out, and watching the rain coming in closer and closer. Long story short, the door was finished yesterday after noon. Oh. actually we did the caulk this after noon........lol 4 days work but worth every minute. Sorry about the sideways pic. I couldn't figure out to rotate it....

Flea Market Fun

We got up at 4:30 AM Saturday morning. Our truck was all packed, and as soon as we had a quick cup of coffee and walked the dog, we headed out to Ft. Worth. The traffic was light fortunatly because we hit a heavy rain storm about half-way there. We actually got to our sons house before he had left. He and my daughter were waiting for us. We had directions to get to "The Barn" in the Ft. Worth stockyards but it is much easier to follow someone. The Barn is just that, a cattle barn that is really used during the Stockshow. In the off season, it is used for a thriving flea market. There were quite a few activities so we anticipated a good crowd of shoppers. Of course it had to pour down rain........our luck, but it really didn't stop people from coming.
We set all our stuff up with no problems. The only problem was, that in spite of really good crowds, very few were buying..........lol. We made $16. Whoopie! It continues today and my son will be there hopefully raking in the money.........lol
We did hope for a lot more but we did have a ball. Our son had two older woman friends setting up on either side of us. They are really into flea markets and antiques. We enjoyed their company. We also did some looking ourselves. Nothing that caught our eyes but interesting.
Next door was an western auction. They had hundreds of wildlife mounts, both full body stuffed and heads/antlers as well as rugs. Some were absolutly beautiful, some very worn and ugly as sin. Our son was considering bidding on a gazelle head and a Kudu. He called after we left and said he didn't buy any. The auction is supposed to continue today, so we will have to see if he broke down and purchased one. I wouldn't be surprised.........
One of the vendors near us was so funny. He kept us entertained. Everyone was so nice and it was a very pleasant day.
We left the grounds around 4PM. Adam treated us to supper, it was an oyster bar. We had fried oysters and shrimp combo. Sarah had a crawfish sausage poor boy. Adam was going out after the sale and just had oysters on the half shell (which I shared) After that we followed Sarah back to the interstate. We got home about 6:30
Adam called this morning and he has decided to set up again next wk. So he will leave everything there. We did make a little more..........whoopie.

Trouble with Trouble

Our dog, named Trouble, is under the weather. Now a few years ago if anyone would have said we would go crazy with a dog, we would have laughed. Trouble is our baby! We call him our boy etc. He is spoiled rotten. And we adore him. He is a fawn and white peke-a- poo.
Last spring he got an infection in his anal glands. Some antibiotic and he was back to normal. This fall he again had the same type of infection but this one was much worse and came on fast. We took him to the vet Monday and they wound up putting him under so they could clean the glands and found a bad abcess. We took him back today for more cleaning of the glands and will take him back either Sunday or Mon. for another check.
They will schedule surgery to remove the glands once the infection is cleared up.
I would do any thing to relieve him of any discomfort.
Getting the money for the surgery will be difficult but we will get it. We can make payments if needed.
This weekend we are going to Ft. Worth to set up at a flea market. It was supposed to be for Christmas, but hey, he is more important than any gift.
Fortunatly we had planned to make gifts for family any way. I know they all understand, and if they don't? Tough. (makes me sound mean but its true)
The cost isn't all that much, just right after a wedding is not good timing.......lol
So if your dog lovers, say a prayer for our bit of "Trouble" because I know the Good Lord sent him to us.

Love is in the air

As I have noted before, we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary the 5th of October. I was very much another day. 3 of the kids called to say happy etc. We went out to eat at our favorite Chinese restaraunt. Friday, my brother called to say congrats.
That evening we went to my granddaughters for a wonderful meal. It was her hubbys b'day.
Saturday our daughter and her husband came down as did our son. Our new son-in-law cooked fajita's for us. And boy can he ever cook! Daughter did well with this one! We watched the Texas-OU game(nice one because Texas won). And really just layed around, very full!
Sunday, we were invited to our eldest son's house for a mid afternoon meal. I was feeling bad because the visiting kids were rushed out so we could go. We got to my sons house at 2:30. I saw that the granddaughters were there and thought nothing about it.
Much to our surprise, we were met at the door by my son and DIL who grabbed us and took us directly to the living room where we were met by ALL of our nearby loved ones. Daughter and SIL as well as our son had left our house and headed over. Our usually missing son and his wife was there too. They had rigged an official 50th wedding party!!! My DIL and son had fixed up a beautiful party! They had beautiful decorations, even a vase of red roses.
Lots of little gold 50's scattered about and a banner with 'happy 50th' on it.
They had a nice bbq dinner, with pork chops, beef, sausage with potato salad and beans. Believe me when I tell you how good it was.
They had a cake to die for!!! I had white frosting with yellow flowers, the 50th, and we love you. The cake was white with raspberry filling. I can't remember a better tasting cake! YUM
We posed for many, many pictures. With each family there and all together. I would have posted them but the button for adding pictures disappeared! I can't figure out where it went, so until next time..........lol
We recieved so many nice gifts.
Eldest son and wife are gifting us a new back door(don't laugh, we need one)and he will install it for us.
3rd son and wife gave us a picture frame with our pic. from daughters wedding, it has 50th the top and anniversary on the bottom.
Eldest granddaughter there got us an album with all the accesorries to make us a scrapbook! She is making it herself.
Youngest granddaughter there gave us a glass picture that sits in a wood stand and has etched on the glass, "God is Love"
And the greatest gift of all was the love they gave to us with this party. It meant a lot to both of us.

Blessings

Yesterday we recieved a card from Shanna (pinktrees, pink rocket) and her family. She remembered our wedding anniversary and made sure that we could go out and have a nice dinner for 2. How can one say thank you enough? I don't know how that doesn't seem trite. She and her hubby are so much of a blessing to us. I hope she will know just how much she means to us. I broke down and cried when I saw the card. I still have to call her to say thank you in person, but I still get all choked up. If she is reading this, I hope she gets the hugs to go with the thank you.
My 2 older sisters, both widows, got together and sent flowers to us.

I was so excited. We rarely get flowers and these are beautiful. The vase is mosaic tiled. They are the best!

Sarah and her new hubby will be down this weekend and probably Adam our son in Ft Worth will be here too. We shall have a 4 day celebration!!!

Friday evening we are going to my Granddaughters for supper. It's her hubby's birthday. Sunday, my son is cooking dinner at his house and we are going there too. Ahhhhhhh 4 days without cooking.....What a blessing also.

They say count your blessings one by one. I can count them and appreciate them.

Lucky week!

Last week I started on my luck! Finally! Our home town newspaper (published once a week) runs a football prediction contest. Last week I was the lucky winner! I guessed and only missed 3, which gained me $25. Super, since this last month has drained us of nearly all our reserves.
Then, Saturday morning we were out and about and a talk show was on. We really like it. It's talking to and asking questions of a local lawyer. He runs a contest which I seldom even try. This time, before he even finished the question, I was on the cell phone with the answer. I beat everyone to the draw and answered the question correctly. I won: a book on famous people who had lost money d/t bankruptcy(very easy to read and informative) a T-shirt and best of the best, a FREE overnight stay in a Bed and Breakfast in a touristy type town. Fredricksburg. It has a museum containing items from Admiral Nimitz. Lots of art shows, and tons of antique shops. The town isn't too far from us, in fact a pleasant drive. We are both excited about it. I hope we can go before Nov. Check out its websight to see what we will enjoy: www.barristersguestquarters.com
I will certainly post info when we get to go and keep you posted about the whole weekend.
My best luck is that Thursday, Oct. 5th we will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. The best thing and one I feel so lucky about is that we are still in love! I truly married my best friend.
