I Love Spring!

My garden is exploding with flowers. I have to plant many more........too many bare spots but I will get to it. I am very proud of the Iris(flags) that are planted in 2 of our ponds. This year they have out done themselves. One of the pictures is of the jasmine that is growing in front of our workshop. The smell is heavenly..........

A nice new family

This spring we were at a friends property and dug up some wild unnamed cactus. One we planted in a pot, the other just dumped in a pot awaiting proper place to plant it in. Well, it was a good thing because a wren decided the "loosely planted cactus" made a perfect nest for them. When we 1st noticed it, she liked to have scared me to death. I walked by and she/he flew out at me. I wasn't expecting it at all. She had 5 eggs and they hatched this last week. Just a ball of feathers........lol. I did get some pictures of them this week. We have been watching them going in and out of the nest with food and while both were gone, I used a flashlight to get a better look. I hope you can see the babies. This shelf is right next to our back door. She/he burrowed under the roots, and don't seem to mind us too much.

Justin, Enter the Sax Man

We were treated to an excellent performance! Justin is a wonderful talented young man. One of the proffessors at the Un. acc. him. He also had a flute player who played an unusual duet, very technical. I will have to say it was difficult to play I know, just not our cup of tea. He played and encore which was our favorite..............Flight of the Bumble Bee. Watching his fingers fly over the keys was amazing. Check out Sunflowerrains blog, she has the video clip of it. That is my daughter Sarah's blog. Also my daughter in laws blog, Blessed by God, she got so many more pictures than I did. We were also blessed by Justin's Fraternity giving us a serenade during refreshments. After, we all went to El Chico for some great food. Again, I didn't take pictures.............shame on me.
I wish you could have been there. I KNOW you would have enjoyed it. Congratulations Justin!!!
The title for this blog came from our local weekly newspaper, The Belton Journal. They did a great job of writing about the recital and put his picture with the heading "Enter the Sax Man"

More update!

Well, I could have just edited last blog. Same story, same results. Hubby went back to the labs and saw the doctor. White cells are still way to low. Normal white cell count is about 10,000. His is 2800. At one time count was nearly 40,000. The chemo is still working (too hard) So he will get another round of shots, one a day for 3 days and go back next week to see if it(the shots) are working. If they are he will get a round of chemo. He will have to have at least 3 chemo rounds before they can tell if they are making a difference. I found out, after forgetting a few times, that the name of the med (shots) is neupogen. It helps build new white cells. Hopefully this round will work better. Dr. was surprised that after 5 shots the count had only raised 2oo.
Nice Dr. though. He even wrote the name of the shot for me and explained more of what it is supposed to do.
Yesterday we went to the commissary at Ft. Hood. It rained all day, not the hard bad stuff but a gloomy day all in all.
Monday I planted the rest of the plants and today we got a few more. I did plant 2 patio tomatos and today I got 2 more, these are the cherry tomatos.
We are all looking forward to Saturday, my grandson will be giving his senior recital. I will let you know all about it next week. In case you didn't read other blogs, Justin, the grandson goes to Baylor and is studying saxophone performance. This is a senior recital but he still has a year to go.

An update

Hi, it's been an interesting week. Hubby had a blood test last week and they said the meds(chemo) were working too well. His white blood count had gone near danger point(low) so they gave him a shot a day to raise up the count. Went to the labs and Dr. the 11th. The white cell count was up but not nearly enough. So instead of chemo this week, he gets a shot a day for 3 days. We also have to be very concious of infections during this time. Labs next week and if its up enough, a round of chemo next week. Nice to find that some things work too hard. Just kind of hard on him because the shots hurt and cause his bones to ache. We really appreciate the Dr.s and the great care they give him. He goes to the VA hospital in Temple Tx. Other than feeling tired all the time and his teeth chipping and falling out, the chemo hasn't caused any other problems, so I guess we should count our blessings.
It bothers him most of all of not being as energetic as he usually is. The Dr is happy with the lymph nodes receding and tells us that feeling tired is not unusual. He may offer a med later that "fixes" the tiredness. So we shall see.
The weather is still plaguing us, there is a strong chance of severe weather this after noon and evening. We are supposed to go to Granddaughters softball game at 7. We shall see.

Extraordinary Easter

Yes, we did have a Easter Surprise! It snowed.................Pictures enclosed to prove it. Saturday it got cold. Then the snow started, nice big wet flakes. All together we got 4 inches. I tried to take pictures of it all but I just got a few. I kept setting my camera down and forgetting it. We were with out lights off and on late in the evening so we just gave it up early. Easter morning we looked out to see a true winter wonderland. Too bad it wasn't Christmas. We had brought in most of the plants so at least we didn't lose them. We hosted Easter dinner for some of the family. I did 4 pork tenderloins, a potato salad and beans and sausage.

Not very traditional but very very good.

Our sons house was sold Saturday!!!! They are so excited. The new owners want to move in as soon as possible, so the dinner was moved here. Son, wife, and all 3 of their kids, babies and husbands were here. I got to hold the precious girls and watch them playing. The eldest, Shelby had an egg hunt in our hall way..........lol. She knew just what to do too. She had 2 candies in her hand and didn't want to put them in her basket..... So cute crawling after her prize! And again, I didn't take pictures. Dumb me.

Jessica provided a scrumptious dessert, as soon as I get the full recipe I will include it here. She just gave me a general list of what was in it......... Believe me, it is sooooooooo good.

Back to the snow, we lost a branch from our Ash tree in the front and it flattened a ceder tree and some shrubs in the back but other wise no real damage. I fired up the gas grill to do the sausage, in the midst of snow still on the patio table and Cold!
